Terrorist attacks worldwide shot up by 25 percent between 2005 and last year, killing 40 percent more people as extremists used increasingly lethal means to carry out high-casualty hits, the State Department says.Iran remains the biggest supporter of terrorism around the world, with elements of its government backing groups throughout the Middle East, particularly in Iraq, the report said.
In its annual global survey of terrorism to be released later Monday, the department says about 14,000 attacks took place in 2006, mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan, claiming more than 20,000 lives. That is 3,000 more attacks than in 2005 and 5,800 more deaths, it says.

Here's a little bit of editing, to give you a clue about cause and effect:
"Terrorist attacks worldwide shot up by 25 percent between 2005 and last year... Iran remains the biggest supporter of terrorism around the world."
You're right. We should invade Iran. It's very brave of you. Most lefties are afraid to speak out in favor of war.

Iran was the biggest supporter of terrorism back in 2003 as well.
Sort of makes you wonder why Bush was so single-minded about Iraq, doesn't it?

If we are still fighting a War on Terrorism and most terrorism is in Iraq, can someone tell me why the Democrats want us to just leave?

The people of Iraq believe the presence of our military in their country is causing the terrorism situation to worsen, instead of get better. I believe them.

David: There was no terrorism in Iraq before we invaded. Real convenient for Bush, the self-fulfilling prophet, huh?

Back in the old days when Democrats were claiming Iraq was a direct threat to the United States they supported the bombing of Iraq completely defying the United Nations.
Saddam called for retaliation against the United States for the Democratic Party supported attack.
OBL then used the Democratic Party supported war on Iraq to issue fatwas.
And plenty more threats of terrorism issued by Saddam posted for your reading pleasure upon request.
We know what happened next, embassies bombed, USS Cole attacked and finally 9-11.
Oh, and one tiny interesting coincidence, the Democratic Party supported war started 12 hours before impeachment proceedings began, and a war that pissed off even the French.
It looks like Democrats stirred up a hornet's nest for political purposes only and not for national security reasons. Just like they are doing now.
I question the patriotism of the wiz-Blue section bloggers solely for that reason.

Lee,
So I guess Iraq just suffers from part-time terrorism. That is, the terrorists that are there now will just go back to reading childrens books and finger painting when we're gone?
Paul,
Regarding your main post: As a result of these attacks, can anyone come up with the increased number of terrorists killed and/or captured?
