Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is delivering pointed critiques of the African American community as he campaigns for its votes, lamenting that many of his generation are "disenfranchising" themselves because they don't vote, taking rappers to task for their language, and decrying "anti-intellectualism" in the black community, including black children telling peers who get good grades that they are "acting white."
Bravo! The idea that diversity is a good thing no matter what path it takes is an earmark of fuzzy-headed liberality, and something I find repugnant. Liberty cannot work without individual responsibility and too often, well-intentioned people have displayed terrible racism when their expectations of blacks are not the same as for whites. Obama came from the wrong side of the tracks and made a success of himself -- and he sees no reason why others cannot do the same. And race is no excuse.
