This report pretty much echoes my own sentiment after watching Palin last night. She's a great little Teleprompter reader, and she reads the stand-up comedy one-liners fed to her by the McCain speech writing team like a champ, but other than her ability to smirk on cue there wasn't much to brag about in her speech - just 'more of the same' attack lines, interspersed with 'more of the same' applause lines.

Uh, kids, being a dupe for enemy propaganda now won't make you feel good about yourself when you are grown up.

Depending on how much time he had with them, he probably asked why they thought that way.

This must be the same sort of vicious human rights violations that Paris Hilton just stoically endured.

The president enjoyed a visit with the students, accepted the letter and upon reading it let the student know that the United States does not torture and that we value human rights," deputy press secretary Dana Perino said.
But as recorded yesterday on Wizbangblue's piece on Cheney thanks to Gonzales, Yoo, and Addington's legal casuistry efforts we do permit 'interrogation techniques' that allow suffering to go right up to but just short of the "equivalent in intensity" to the pain of "organ failure or death.".. We do that but that's not torture, according to the Oval office, but I doubt if the students were given the distinction.

Steve, you got it exactly right. These are smart kids. They actually pay attention to the news and they realize the consequences of the decisions made by Dick Cheney and rubber stamped by Gonzo.
It's not "enemy propaganda" that we've chosen to ignore the Geneva Conventions and torture our prisoners. And rather than just wave it all off with, some comment about how they all want to kill us or they're subhumans anyway, they see the consequences of this decision in historical perspective. They realize that even if it's "only terrorists" we're torturing, we've held a position of pride for our entire history that we've been the shining city on the hill.
Now all of that is lost and thank goodness some people recognize it and have the boldness to confront Bush with their beliefs directly.
