Gore Considering Presidential Bid

Bumped and Updated: A Suffolk University poll shows Gore could beat Clinton in New Hampshire:

The only obstacle for Clinton in the Democratic primary is Al Gore. Twenty-nine percent of Clinton voters would switch to Gore if he announced for president, and when all of the switches from other Democratic candidates were recalculated, Gore would defeat Clinton. In total, 32 percent of Democratic voters would support Gore over the candidate they are currently leaning toward.

Also, check out the Draft Al Gore video.

It's official. Al Gore is seriously considering a run for the White House according to a report in the Taipei Times:

Al Gore visit postponed Former US vice president Al Gore will not be able to make it to Taiwan this September to address the issue of global warming, Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Tien Chiu-chin (田秋堇) said yesterday. Tien, who invited Gore to visit Taiwan to promote awareness on global warming, told reporters yesterday that she received an e-mail from the Harry Walker Agency, which has the exclusive right to arrange Gore's speeches, saying that Gore had canceled all his scheduled events in the next six months. The visit to Taiwan had been postponed to next year, she added. Tien said the reason for the cancelation was that Gore was considering a presidential bid.

Al Gore would be my choice hands down for President in 2008. He is by far the most experienced and qualified candidate from either side of the aisle. He served as Vice President for 8 years after a long career in the Senate. He is eloquent, intelligent, passionate and relentless. He is a proven winner having garnered a plurality of the popular votes in three successive elections (1992, 1996, and 2000); the first two as Vice President and the last as President.

Sign the petition to draft Al Gore for the 2008 Presidential campaign at draftgore.com.

Lee Ward:

Sounds like the Gore-ster is serious...

Paul Hamilton:

Or maybe somebody's reading an excuse as an announcement. I'll agree that he's sorta-kinda acting like a candidate, but he's still a Johnny-One-Note at the moment and he'll have to show me he has a serious and wide-ranging plan for the country and is willing to do what it takes to get elected, I can't support him.

I hope he does jump in the race. Right now, I am not very excited about voting for any of the Dem candidates.

Larkin
I signed the petition and will encourage all of my conservative friends to do so.

Lee Ward:

Be sure to help them with the spelling, Hugh. Some of the street names are three syllables! That could be quite a barrier for conservatives to overcome.

I'll do that Lee...just after I finish spell checking everything you've written on Wizbang.

Lee, why do you imply and otherwise state so explicitly that conservatives are illiterate?

Larkin
My pleasure.

I do remember 2000 well.

I also remember that even the NYT admitted that Bush won 2000. I also remember Gore's concession speech in 2004...just kidding, it was in January 2000 right?

So, in the spirit of being competitive, bring on Al Gore for president on 2008. As I view the Democratic and Republican candidates, as a conservative, I could pick three Repubs that might beat Al. I only see one Repub (and he hasn't announced yet) beating Hillary.

BTW, has Al's carbon footprint shrunk? I know he's installing solar at the Belle Mead manse, but what about the jet? Has he transitioned to glider? Just kidding larkin. I'll await Gore on the issue alone and ignore the static he creates.

Make sure Lee Ward spell checks this post.

Lee Ward:

"I'll do that Lee...just after I finish spell checking everything you've written on Wizbang."

Great, I'm looking forward to the results, My typing is atrocious, and although my spelling is usually pretty good I'm sure there are mistakes, and I appreciate the help.

While you're at it empty the wastebaskets too.

Lee

"My typing is atrocious"...well of course it is.

But Lee, you misspell with impunity. No pressure. No national media. No condescending anchors and pundits to use your misspelling to demonstrate what an absolute, obtuse, ignorant idiot you are.

I will aspire to introduce you to that scrutiny, in miniature, here at Wizbang!

Enjoy your potatoe soup.

BTW, your waste baskets are full. Because I'm a giver I'll hit the auto archive button for you.

Lee Ward:

Thanks, glad to have you around, HughS. You're a great American, despite what most people say about conservatives like yourself... punks who are so willing to stoop to intimidation like you have here.... Oohh, you're going to spell check my posts? Wow -- you rock on you big, bad conservative kook.

I personally think that the attention you are giving us will result in you making a much better informed decision when it comes time to vote in November 2008. You'll thank us for it.

No, I take that back. Slobs like you have no manners.

Lee

"punks who are so willing to stoop to intimidation like you have here."

and

"Be sure to help them with the spelling, Hugh. Some of the street names are three syllables! That could be quite a barrier for conservatives to overcome."

Lee, who is doing the intimidating here? You issued a challenge. I'm good for it. You seem to regret it, particularly in calling me "punk".

You sound nervous. Bring on the attacks, I'll bring the facts. Live it and own it, Lee.

Lee Ward:

So go help your conservative friends sign up at the draft Gore site, like you said you were going to do -- then come back and post the number of friends who did so.

I mean, you weren't lying when you said you were going to do that, right? I'd be shocked to find out a conservative lied on a blog comment thread.

When you're finished with that, archive our site, spell check my posts, and then report back. I'll give you some new chores when you've completed these.

bryanD:

First of all: that Video! Do you want to play the Legacy Turd card? After GW??? Son of Richie Rich? aGAIN????
(A. Gore Sr was a punk, FYI)
And the Kennedy-caboose thing: this ain't 1966! We've had the Church Committee hearings(,etc!!) and an excellent "troubling" book by Sy Hersch("The Dark Side of Camelot"), so hang that up. Kennedys = whores...(Erase that vid!!! Counterproductive!)
Nevertheless, it's Gore's for the taking. (It just is!) Hillary's a cow with too many grudges for even fellow Dems to be comfortable with.
Paul (with the remote nomination, head to head) could beat her (No REALLY!), as could Hunter, Gilmour, or even Huckabee, but against the favored Warpigs (Giuliani, Romney, etc), it's Gore all the way.
And no, I wouldn't press "D", but I wouldn't press "R" either. Happy to let the gods decide!

kim:

A proven winner? In '92 and '96, those votes were for Bill not Al. In 2000, he lost. At this rate, I'd like to see him 'win' in '08.
================================

kim:

I'll give you a hot tip now, and that is that Gore will come a cropper on global warming. He is going to be so vulnerable on that. So I guess you are stuck with Hillary, and boy are the ads on her going to be fun. The American people have never elected a President whom they fear, and they won't in '08. So you're gonna be stuck with Thompson or Romney, or both. You'll survive. Well, some of you won't survive Thompson Derangement Syndrome.
==========================

kim:

You make your little point and my bigger point remains; Bill drew those votes in '92 and '94.

Sure, lots more think like Gore now than in 2000. The disinformation campaign has worked. But, the science, and the climate, will gradually slay Gore, for good, the sorry hyperbolist. The evil charlatan. Didn't they teach him in seminary that the enlightenment, and a little more primitive religious thinking a la la Lamb, showed that blaming man for the actions of the Gods is an error? Oh yes, he didn't do well in that class.
=========================

kim:

We believe it is possible civil behaviour voted for George Bush in 2000. Foolish, stupid, American.
=========================

kim:

Read Vaclav Havel about the threat to freedom from the warmers. Explain why Gore's propaganda is shown to impressionable schoolchildren?

The masses don't yet realize that the Piltdown Mann's crooked hockey stick has been debunked.

We are entering a solar cycle weaker than most that will produce cooling, and the effect of cosmic rays on low level cloud formation has ten times the effect on Greenhousing as the trace gas, CO2. We are releasing a fertilizer that has been rigidly, and virtually irreversibly, sequestered from our atmosphere, our ecosphere.
===================================

kim:

And please, Gore is as likely a leader as Kerry. The Gorebellied Fool.
=======================================

Paul Hamilton:

Larkin said:
>>The rest of the field is going to evaporate when Gore gets in.

What is Gore's position on any of the key issues of the day other than the environment?

Seems to me that you're buying a pig in a poke the same as the Fred Fanatics.

I liked Gore's positions in 2000 but he ran the single worst campaign I've ever seen. No matter how good a president a person would be, it doesn't matter if he lacks the ability to sell himself and his agenda to the American people.

kim:

Larkin, CERN, for certain.

I think Gore illustrates the Peter Principle. He has reached his level of incompetence: Ex-Vice-President.
===========================

Kim

"I think Gore illustrates the Peter Principle. He has reached his level of incompetence: Ex-Vice-President."

He'll never know how good he had it, and Bill Clinton knows this better than anyone.

Last night, Lee Ward made this condescending remark about the ability of conservatives to spell.

"Be sure to help them with the spelling, Hugh. Some of the street names are three syllables! That could be quite a barrier for conservatives to overcome."

Posted by Lee Ward | June 27, 2007 6:31 PM

I promised Lee that I would peruse his own posts to determine if he knew how to spell. comments like this suggest lee didn't take well to the test:

"Thanks, glad to have you around, HughS. You're a great American, despite what most people say about conservatives like yourself... punks who are so willing to stoop to intimidation like you have here.... Oohh, you're going to spell check my posts? Wow -- you rock on you big, bad conservative kook.

No wonder why now. All I had to do was read (and this was not easy folks) Lee's comments on one thread, not all of them. The one I read was the thread in which Paul was poking him on the Fairness doctrine.

Lee, you misspelled 15 words. Most of your misspellings were of two syllable words, not the three syllable "barriers" you said conservatives would encounter. I also gave you credit for colloquialisms and figures of speech.

Lee, you make it so easy for your opponents to nominate you for the "Hoist on your own Petard Award". Perhaps you should move out of that glass house. Also Lee, don't bother correcting any of the spelling of your foils here on Wizbang. We know better than to serve up an insult like that.

Lee Ward:

And here I thought you had a life. my bad.

And i make lots of typos in comment threads, just as I said above. For some odd reason (dishonesty or just plain stupidity) you left out this quote from above when you were "citing" the "reasons" for you to wear your "ass" as a "hat" - lol

I said "My typing is atrocious, and although my spelling is usually pretty good I'm sure there are mistakes, and I appreciate the help."

And if I understood you correctly you said you were going to spell-check my 'posts', but you went and spell-checked 'comments' I made in a comment thread instead? Man, you are a dolt if you dont know the difference.

I guess that shows that after spell-checking my posts here on Wizbang Blue you had to keep searching, eh Hugh?

Now, Hugh, have you convinced your conservative friends to sign up at the Draft Gore site as you said you were going to do - or were you talking out of your ass, as usual?

Hurry back Hugh - we need more trolls around here, and you're a classic.

Dear Lee

Oh my, there's a difference between a post and a comment? My bad. Back to work.

"I guess that shows that after spell-checking my posts here on Wizbang Blue you had to keep searching, eh Hugh?"....uhhhhh, no. But but I'll start in a minute.

BTW, explaining after the fact is not the same as humility before the act. You insulted the conservative signers of the petition and then back pedaled after I said I would check YOUR spelling.

And yes, I think I'm up to about ten signers of the Gore petition.

Lee Ward:

Good work, Hugh. Keep it up.

Thanks Lee,
I appreciate the encouragement.

Lee, where is the original text of this article that includes the photo cropped into the text or accompanied and captioned?

Good news Lee,

Two misspellings since last Wednesday. Bad news: they reflect a poor understanding of the plural noun and the possessive .

I was discussing your prolific mistakes in the Comments section of WizBlue and Wizbang with my kids' elementary school principal and she suggested you concentrate on contractions. Flash cards are very effective.

Lee Ward:

got a link on the 2 misspellings in the last week, Hugh -- or are you afraid to have your work checked? I'm not...

kim:

Go ghoti.

Glad to oblige....

The New York Times/CBS/MTV poll (linked here) shows young voters age 17 to 29 are paying more attention to the upcoming presidential race than this age group did in 2004, and they're choosing to vote Democratic in larger numbers than ever before as well. Here's some of the takeaways from the poll - see the link above for more:

The word "here's" in the last sentence is improper usage if the singular contraction "here is" ....takeaways. Should read "here are"....takeaways.

"If you haven't seen the original video check it out first (just below) or at least sample it to get an idea of the Microsoft sales pitch. If you've already seen the video then scroll down to the paroy video (further below)."

The word "paroy" is misspelled.

Lee
You haven't responded to this. See Below.

civil behavior:

Hughs,

your "anality" sets you apart from most.

congrats you own it.....

For gods sake man, this is a blog not classic lit 101......

if you can't get content with a few mispellings then I suggest some tutoring...

Lee Ward:

On the first one I recall changing the line a few times -- I remember when I was composing this post I first referred to the poll 'points' as bullet points instead of takeaways, and i remember trying a few other constructions, and apparently i never went back and edited the first part of the sentence.

That's a gramatical error (or a proofreading error since I should have caught it) on my part, but it's not a spelling error.

Re: paroy instead of parody - since I correctly spelled the word parody in the post title "Microsoft "Surface" Parody Surfaces", and the verb 'parodies' was correctly spelled - "Now a new video is out the parodies that original..." - I feel comfortable calling that a typo. Don't you?

A typographical error, yes, but not a spelling error -- but then a troll like you would never admit to that.

So I'm glad I checked your work since, well - you lied - or do you just not know the difference between typographical, grammatical, and 'speling erors' Hugh? Are you that uneducated?

Wow, I guess you conservatives need more than just help with spelling. Which Democratic President do you blame for your poor education, Hugh?

As I said previously above, I know I make mistakes and the mistakes get through, and I'm really surprised you didn't find any spelling errors.

You can go spell-check check the rest of my posts now, Hugh - but do a better job, eh? Maybe show it to the 'school principal' with whom you 'discuss my blog postings' - lol.

civil behavior
Read the whole thread. Lee brought up the spelling issue.

Lee,
Typos are a cop out. Just spell the word correctly. I think it would be hilarious to watch you in a spelling bee as you strenuously object to being dismissed because of a "typo".

Calling everyone a liar simply diminishes the effect of the word.

Or better yet, don't get yourself in this predicament by making broad unsubstantiated insults about conservatives unless you are willing to deal with the pushback.

Last, I am edumacated, holding a BS and MA. No President, Democratic, or Republican, had anything to do with my edumacation.

Lee Ward:

"I think it would be hilarious to watch you in a spelling bee as you strenuously object to being dismissed because of a "typo"."

The next time you come across as spelling bee where the contestants compete by typing their answers you let me know, HughS.

Or maybe next time just think about what you're going to say before you say it -- you might realize how stupid you sound at times.

And, really? - you earned an MA? in what? where?

Thanks for your interest Lee.

MA Humanities, California State University

Thesis Topic: Northrop Frye's Archetypal Criticism: The Great Code and Dostoyevsky.

"Or maybe next time just think about what you're going to say before you say it -- you might realize how stupid you sound at times."....advice you might well heed.

Lee Ward:

California State University - and you're saying the government didn't help you with your 'edumacation'? Did you apply for federal grants? Did you receive any financial aid? Do you believe your tuition fully-covered the cost of your 'edumacation'?

'Humanities'? I guess that helped you a lot in your chosen field of blog trolling.

"'Humanities'? I guess that helped you a lot in your chosen field of blog trolling."

Well, my chosen field is corporate finance and investment banking. But, yes, an education in the Humanities and Literature has aided me in my experiences posting here. Trolling this little blog has been an interesting diversion and view into the mindset of a troll like you, Lee. How did your education help you in your chosen field of blog trolling?

kim:

Lee, you're a cow, and a dishonest one at that, which is a difficult trick to accomplish. Civil Behaviour, did you inadvertently vote for George Bush in 2000? Stupid, foolish, American. HughS, 'Oblomov' and 'Fathers and Sons' are among my favourite.

Yesterday at six o'clock
I went to Senna square;
There they flogged by knout
A young peasant woman.

Not a sound came from her breast,
Only the whip whistled, playing...
And to my muse I said: Behold!
There is your own, your beloved sister.

per Nekrasov
=======================

Kim
Nekrasov and Dostoyevsky certainly shared the same soul.

I think the folks at Wizblue should include "The House of the Dead" to a required reading list. And Nekrasov's verse.

The great Russian writers carry still a heavy burden that their progeny blissfully ignore.

kim:

Yes, they don't cry out when the whip plays.
