Army Misses Recruiting Goal 2nd Month in a Row

This isn't surprising at all...

The U.S. Army, strained by wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, missed its recruiting goal for the second straight month in June, indicating a trend that some defense officials on Monday called worrying.

The Army will announce the monthly data on Tuesday. Army spokesmen would not discuss the specific figures.

But some defense officials said the Army significantly missed its June goal of 8,400 recruits. One official placed the shortfall at about 15 percent, a major gap for a typically strong month when recruiters normally find more willing young people fresh from high school graduation.

"We are fighting a war on two fronts," one Pentagon official said. "Parental support has declined. That's a big factor."

Another defense official called the numbers "concerning."

Wonder what these guys have to say about it? You have to actually READ the report.

Lee Ward:

Thanks, HughS, for verifying the facts in my post.

As per your link, the Army only hit 84 percent of their target recruitment goal for the month of June.

And this link verifies that this is the second month in a row that they missed the mark. In May, 2007 they only achieved 94 percent of their goal.

Hmm, the trend is a downward slope. Want to lay a bet on the numbers for July, or will the Army just start dropping the recruitment goals to match reality?

You remember 'reality' right Hugh? It's what keeps biting you in the ass every time you post a comment on Wizbang Blue.

Or did you comment above have any point other than proving me correct?
