Another Republican Hypocrite Prays for Forgiveness

And he receives forgiveness, allowing him to sin again, just like last time.

A God-fearing Republican Senator has apologised for "a very serious sin" after becoming the first member of the US Congress to be discovered on the telephone records of the woman dubbed DC Madam, who is alleged to have run one of Washington's biggest prostitution rings.

Senator David Vitter, a married father of four who represents Louisiana, issued a statement saying he had "asked for and received forgiveness from God" after his telephone number appeared among those associated with the service of Pamela Martin and Associates.

The company's proprietor, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, 51, is currently facing federal charges of racketeering for allegedly running a prostitution ring out of homes and hotel rooms in the Washington area, which is believed to have netted her more than $2 million over 13 years from 1993.

"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Mr Vitter said, in the statement issued to the Associated Press news agency today. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counselling.

"Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there - with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."

This hypocrite passes laws moralizing the behavior of others, while he's doing the nasty with the nasty girls in D.C. Not a problem, he begs forgiveness and Shazamm - the slate is wiped clean. The sad part is that his pious mea culpas will probably get this asshat hypocrite re-elected.

This wasn't the first time this conservative hypocrite has been involved in a sex scandal.

Vitter is in his first Senate term after serving six years in the House. During his Senate campaign, Vitter was accused by a member of the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee of carrying on a lengthy affair with a prostitute in New Orleans's French Quarter.

In a radio interview, Vitter then called the allegation "absolutely and completely untrue" and dismissed it as "just crass Louisiana politics."

Vitter was the first senator to endorse former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani for president and serves as the campaign's Southern regional chairman. A reliable conservative vote in the Senate, Vitter was among a small group of GOP lawmakers who sought to block an immigration overhaul from advancing last month.

Vitter and his wife, Wendy, a former prosecutor, have four children. On his Senate Web site, Vitter says he is committed to "advancing mainstream conservative principles" and notes that he and his wife are lectors at their hometown church.

Vitter exemplifies the "mainstream conservative principle" of moralizing on the behavior of others while practicing supreme hypocrisy on your own... and lying about it.

Nice to see this one outed, and no doubt there will be others. The conservative right is full of this kind, and it's only a matter of time before they're caught.

Interesting that this is the second time in the last few weeks that a Giuliani operative has been caught being bad. Rudy seems to attract a bad element... can you imagine a White House full of cocaine-sniffing womanizers?

Paul Hamilton:

Repentance doesn't just mean asking for forgiveness, it means turning your life around.

People DO sin. Some in sexual ways, others in monetary greed or a lust for power. So it's not just the people who visit dens of iniquity who need to repent.

At the start of every Mass, there is a moment spent in the examination of conscience, where honest people will recognize their own wrongdoings. Unfortunately, there are a lot of folks who will look at Sen. Vitter, point their fingers at him and mock his actions without ever taking a single moment to check the cleanliness of their own slate.

So I hope the senator does mend his ways, but you won't see me mocking him and pretending that there's nothing I've ever done that I wouldn't be ashamed to see on page one.

Lee Ward:

Not to worry, yo -- the Republicans have an airtight lock on the family-values hypocrisy that's behind Senator Vittner's 'prayers for forgiveness so he can sin again'.

It does blow holes in the GOP bumper sticker options for 2008 however...

Maybe "We're For Family Values as Long as We Can Still Screw Hookers" is a GOP bumper sticker that'll win votes?

or how about "We're Worse Than You Are But We're Quick to Repent!"...

I'll work on it...

Steve Crickmore:

If I was Vitter, I would be more worried about his wife forgiving him than God..Vitter's wife was asked how she would react if her husband had been caught in an affair, like Livingston and Bill Clinton. "I'm a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary [Clinton]," she said. "If he does something like that,

Steve Crickmore:

(Vitter's wife quote continued) ... "I'm walking away with one thing, and it's not alimony, trust me".

The love of money is the root of all evil. Now if Bill had only paid for sex, instead of raping.
