Must be a Slow News Day?

Our gung-ho comrades on the right over at our sister site Wizbang! have a really neat-o post you may want to check out if all of the news about the violence in Iraq has you a bit frazzled...

It seems that there is a new Hollywood movie in the works based on G.I. Joe! Whoo-Hoo!

toyssoldiers.jpg

Now, first off -- let me express my appreciation for the fact that with all of the important news of the day -- the elections, Iraq, bombings in India, monster storms in the midwest, etc. I am really grateful that someone is keeping en eye out for news about G.I. Joe. Honestly, I have to admit, I just haven't gotten around to creating a Google News alert for war toys yet.

But enough of that -- on to the good stuff. What's the big news that warrants such front-page Sunday morning attention from the right-wing blogosphere?

It seems that the G.I. Joe movie now in the works won't be the kind of patriotic, eagle-soaring, flag-waving, tear-invoking lying propaganda that the camouflage pajama-wearing fighting keyboardists in the right wing blogosphere would prefer that Hollywood create.

Ohhh, I smell another Lorie Byrd boycott in the works!

The studio's live-action feature film version of G.I. Joe will no longer revolve around a top-secret U.S. special forces team but rather an international operation.

In a follow-up to their confirmation that Stephen Sommers will direct G.I. Joe, Variety offers this new description of the team: "G.I. Joe is now a Brussels-based outfit that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, an international co-ed force of operatives who use hi-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealer. The property is closer in tone to X-Men and James Bond than a war film." [...]

So why the changes? Hasbro and Paramount execs recently spoke about the challenges of marketing a film about the U.S. military at a time when the current U.S. administration and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are at a low-point in global polls. When a studio makes a film as expensive as G.I. Joe will likely be, they want to know that as many people as possible around the world will want to see it. In other words, G.I. Joe -- "A Real American Hero" -- is a tough sell.

Note that these right wing bloggers are lamenting -- not the increased violence in Iraq, or the huge migration of Iraqis driven from their homes -- and not President Bush's gaffe earlier this week invoking Vietnam as an analog for Iraq -- and not the election news that the Democrats walking out of the Fox debate has caused the debate to be cancelled...

No, no -- what's most important is the news that Hollywood is making a movie about G.I. Joe, and is choosing to not lie to the world in the process.

These folks are so accustomed and comfortable snuggling into their barcaloungers with a bowl of pretzels and letting the lies from the Fox News Channel wash over them, anointing them in self-deluding bullshit, that they just wish the rest of the world could experience the happiness and joy that comes from willingly and intentionally ignoring the truth.

Better luck next time, and keep us posted on important war toy news and developments, you fighting keyboardists!

U.P. Man:

Complaining about another site not covering important stuff while not covering the same important stuff?

HYPOCRITE

LiberalNitemare:

Thank goodness that with such a busy news day you found enough time to do a second post on the subject.

Lee Ward:

Hey - If it's important to the right wing bloggers at Wizbang and Hot Air, and Dummocrats.com, and Townhall, and Robert Steeley and Four Color Media then it's important to me!

Not to worry - I'm sure they'll have an update on the Vick situation any minute now... or another post about some guy's dog teaching him the gospel...

Lee Ward:

You've obviously overlooked paragraph 10, which has links to our coverage of the "important stuff" I mentioned.

Thanks for illustrating just how much of a troll you are, and the reason why we've banned your sad ass...

michael:

Lee, as I commented on the other site, hopefiully Hasbro contracts for the Chinese manufacture of the GI Joe doll, whereby his penis will be painted w/ lead paint. Then you will see a massive eruption of lead poisoning amongst the right-wingers and their children.

michael:

Not so much a slow news day, Lee, as there is just so much that the right kook blogosphere cannot rant about lately.

The Wizfool main site rookie Fiano is a prime example, along w/ Lorie Byrdbrain, a past-master, at what can be called "incestuous amplification."

As you pointed out w/ your rightie kook blog roll of GI Joe stories, these writers(?) get on one horse-shit story and amplify it across the web w/ repitition until it becomes legend. Rarely do any of them ever compose something from their original thought...rather they typically pick up someone else's blather, like Mr. Ed, the talking horse's ass Morrissey or Mary Katherine Hamhock, a ByrdBrain fav, and simply amplify it until the blather becomes "fact" in the kook-world.

The piece you referenced is so poorly written by this "Cassy" that, for a moment, I thought I was reading a high school gossip paper.

Judging from her droolings thus far, it's hard not to believe this new-found Cass-Critter is just a Valley Girl masquerading as a former jock strap sniffer...er, sports reporter.

bryanD:

Cassie's apparently been signed on to soft-land the Bushbots by being their cheeseburger buddy.

Operation Zaftig: The Chase For the Chub.

Lee Ward:

I think there's only a dozen or so commenters left over there, which is way, way down from what it was just a few months ago.

I take it as another sign of the conservative movement disintegrating. What you see over there now, and the examples of their trolling here, is the hard-core "base" -- and it's not a particularly pretty picture.

I also believe that the Jay Tea and Paul "war" that Wizbang! has waged against Wizbang Blue (especially back in June and July) really turned off the few thinkers who were left among the active commenters over there. When the likes of Zeldorf Ragstaff III and D-Hoggs are the cream of their crop, the crop's having a pretty bad year.

bryanD:

"I think there's only a dozen or so commenters left over there-lee"

marc's and CCG's posts have bumped fuzz so often they've produced offspring (John in CA).

"I take it as another sign of the conservative movement disintegrating.-lee"

It's not the conservative movement that's disintegrating, it the royal cause. Ron Paul is a conservative. Bushbots hate him worse than all the Dems combined.

"I also believe that the Jay Tea and Paul "war" that Wizbang! has waged against Wizbang Blue (especially back in June and July) really turned off the few thinkers who were left among the active commenters over there."

The Hammer of Odin hissy fits and the mass banninations on the main board were the most instructive events. And their purpose was very simple:

Jay Tea understood that with the electoral defeat of 2006, the Bushbot propaganda Battle for Moscow had been effectively lost. Visions of endless waves of T-34 commentariat whup-ass rattled him. 100% obvious. Intellectual chickenhawkery.

So now (with few exceptions), the board is full of commenters flinching at each other. Some even imagine they've swept the field of the opposition. Or are they trying to convince themselves through a communal re-affirmation process? Probably the latter. It's like a sickbay social club:

(whispering)"I won't ask you why you're not in Iraq if you don't ask me why I'm not in Iraq!"

"Deal? Deal!"

(clearing throat) "Oh, Libbies...! Lefties..! "
