Think we couldn't end up with another Republican administration as dishonest as GWB 43?
By now you've probably caught the news about Senator Larry Craig's (R-Idaho) recent arrest and guilty plea in connection with an incident in a Minneapolis Airport restroom. The undercover policeman who made the arrest was allegedly solicited by Craig.
The June, 2007 arrest was made as part of a sex sting operation. One report I read stated that Craig was seated in the bathroom stall next to the cop and was observed tapping his foot "which [the arresting officer] said he "recognized as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct." Craig plead guilty, but is now recanting the charges.
According to articles written by those who've seen the police arrest report, Craig also handed the arresting officer a business card that identified him as a member of the Senate. "What do you think about that?" Craig is alleged to have said.
What is now emerging is that Craig is a huge supporter of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and up until a few hours ago a YouTube video posted by the Romney campaign folks was available which featured Craig speaking glowingly in support of Romney's "very strong family values."
Once reports of Craig's arrest surfaced on the web yesterday the Romney campaign removed the video.
Politico.com's Jonathan Martin picks it up from here:
A clip of Craig praising Romney was until just moments ago available on Romney's YouTube channel, but is now listed as "a private video."
Explaining why he's backing Romney, Craig says in the video that it's in part because "he has very strong family values."
"That's something I grew up with and believe in," Craig explains.
In February, the Romney campaign announced that Craig and Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah) would serve as co-Senate liaisons for the effort.
"It is an honor to have the support and leadership in the United States Senate of Sen. Bennett and Sen. Craig," Romney said in the press release accompanying the announcement. "Throughout their years of service, they have compiled strong conservative records and have accomplished much for the people of their states and their nation. Both men have a unique perspective of the new generation of challenges confronting our nation. I look forward to working with them to find the solutions needed to ensure that our country remains a strong world leader." [...]
BTW, rumors of Craig's homosexuality didn't just pop up last year. Then-Rep. Larry Craig went on network news in 1982 to deny rumors involving cocaine and sex with male pages.
Another lying 'family values' conservative hypocrite caught with his hand in the ... well, errh, never mind.
That's a screen capture of the results of a Google Search for the clip removed by Romney.
Craig's arrest doesn't speak well of Romney's ability to choose his associates. Romney's removal of the video doesn't speak well of his willingness to be honest and open with the American people.
How very Republican...
