The White House defends its actions, saying the testimony was changed because evidence contained in the report was at odds with the recent International Panel on Climate Change.
In a Wednesday press conference, White House press secretary Dana Perino insisted the testimony was changed because of incongruities in its scientific data.
"As I understand it, in the draft, there was broad characterization about climate change science that didn't align with the IPCC," Perino said.
Bullshit. Absolute Bullshit.
Dr. Jonathan Patz, a lead author of the IPCC report, disputes this White House contention. "I do not find any grounds that anything should have been excluded by the administration, because it's scientifically accurate and was in line with IPCC. I think her testimony was rather compromised by excluding all the background rationale for why we should care, regarding the health effects of climate change."
Caring about the health effects of climate change ties in with caring about the fact that the Republican administration denied for years that Global Warming even existed, and only recently has acknowledged the phenomena while continuing to severely downplay the severity of the problem.
Can't have Americans 'caring' so close to a presidential election, now can we...?
Not to be outdone by the White House liars, the right wing media is telling lies as well. Check out this story's lead-in paragraph written by the ultra-conservative Investor's Business Daily:
California Fires: Sen. Harry Reid blames global warming. Sen. Barbara Boxer says they're President Bush's fault.
Bullshit. Here's what Harry Reid said:
As you know, one reason that we have the fires burning in Southern California is global warming. One reason the Colorado Basin is going dry is because of global warming.
Harry Reid is citing the drought conditions as one of the reasons for the fire, and global warming as one of the reasons for the drought. Meanwhile the right wing liars are spinning his statement faster than the Santa Ana winds.
As to he right wing media's lying claim that Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is saying the fires are Bush's fault, that's just more bullshit as well. Here's what she actually said:
Right now, we are down 50% in terms of our National Guard equipment because they're all in Iraq, the equipment, half of the equipment.
She's lamenting California's ability to muster National Guard equipment to fight the fire, not "blaming Bush for the fires." That's just more Republican lies.
The only thing more idiotic than the lies told by Investor's Business Daily is the fact that there are people who swallow these lies and repeat them. On our sister site Wizbang! CoGirl comments on a Kim Preistap post citing reports pointing to possible arson behind the Santiago Canyon fire:
So much for Harry Reid's global warming comments.
And could this mean that it's NOT Bush's fault?
The White House lies to the American people about the connection to between Global Warming and public health concerns to minimize blame for their inaction and years of denial, the right wing media lies to the American people about statements made by democratic politicians, and the right wing blogosphere happily repeats the lies.
And in this manner Republican lies are being spread as fast as the fires in Southern California.
