Backgound on Palin's Troopergate - August 13 News Report

Here's background information concerning Sarah Palin's "Troopergate" ethics probe:

Be sure to stick around for the poll at the end of the news report above. At that point in time 12% of the respondents think Palin was telling the truth - and 88% think she's lying.

No wonder she's looking for a new job!

What was John McCain thinking -- or was he thinking at all - was his move picking Palin as VP just a desperation Hail-Mary? Or was he told to pick her by people more powerful than he?

Today, Palin's scheduled appearance in St. Paul, Minn., as guest of honor at an afternoon gathering by the Republican National Coalition for Life was canceled. And that didn't sit well with a leading social conservative.

Phyllis Schlafly, who in the mid-1970s almost single-handedly derailed what had been the expected ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, told ABC News that a McCain aide notified her late Monday that Palin would not be attending the event.

"I think this is clearly somebody in the McCain campaign who doesn't understand where the votes are coming from," Schlafly said. "They only told me this at 10 o'clock last night, and it was a call from somebody down the line in the McCain campaign."

She added: "The pro-lifers who paid $95 to come to this event because of Sarah Palin are going to be very unhappy."

"Clearly doesn't understand where the votes are coming from".... I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Dobsons and Schaflys of the religious right didn't come right out and tell John McCain "take a VP candidate of our liking or we ain't supporting you."

And of course John McCain rolled over and submitted -- maverick that he is...

But wait, there is more.

"The reason that members of the Palin family were having discussions with the head of the state police about this state trooper, who was her ex-brother-in-law, was because he had made threats against the family. He threatened to kill the governor's daughter, her father, and her sister. He tasered her 11-year-old stepson. And that is why the Palin family was concerned about this trooper."

And here is another quote:

"Todd Palin was ORDERED by the head of the Governor's security detail, Special Agent Bob Cockrell, to discuss Trooper Wooten with Walt Monegan, as Wooten presented a credible threat to the Governor's safety. Here's a direct quote from Special Agent Cockrell, who is now providing security for his sixth consecutive governor:

"When made aware of the security concerns regarding a state trooper, I instructed the First Gentleman to contact the commissioner of Public Safety. It is standard protocol to ask every governor about any threats they perceive or have realized. "I will not hesitate to set the record straight in answering these false allegations by former Commissioner Monegan."

Sorry guys, there are issues that can be discussed about Palin that have bearing on her ability to serve and her qualifications. Troopergate is NOT one of them. Please don't jump over a cliff with allegations that just don't stand up in daylight.

Trooper Wooten was in trouble way before Palin got elected. And he likely deserved to be in trouble and probably should have been fired. Put a gun on the hip of some guys and they go power nuts.

One other comment. Please remember that most of Palin's enemies in Alaska are rabid snakes.

Don't jump in the pit with them just because you don't like Palin or consider her a threat to Obama.

Trooopergate speaks to the ethics of someone John McCain tells us is ready to be Vice-President of the United States.

So far, there isn't much confidence behind McCain's word on this matter.

There will be lots more to discover as Troopergate unfolds. Palin has budgeted $100,000 for lawyering in her defense. I wish her luck. She'll need it.

She's already been caught lying about the matter. Let's see why she lied.
