Another Palin Debate Lie

20081006_palin_debate.jpgThese Republican knuckleheads will do anything to keep the public's attention off of the real issues.

hat tip Matthew Yglesias:

When I heard Sarah Palin say at the VP debate that she'd had the Alaska Permanent Fund divest from Sudan to protest the Sudanese government's actions in Darfur, I assumed that she had, in fact, had the Alaska Permanent Fund divest from Sudan. On the one hand, it was a totally plausible story -- a lot of publicly controlled funds have divested. And on the other hand, it would be bizarre to tell such a straightforward lie. And yet lie she did.

ABC News:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fought to protest atrocities in Sudan by dropping assets tied to the country's brutal regime from the state's multi-billion-dollar investment fund, she claimed during Thursday's vice presidential debate.

Not quite, according to a review of the public record - and according to the recollections of a legislator and others who pushed a measure to divest Alaskan holdings in Sudan-linked investments.

"The [Palin] administration killed our bill," said Alaska state representative Les Gara, D-Anchorage. Gara and state Rep. Bob Lynn, R-Anchorage, co-sponsored a resolution early this year to force the Alaska Permanent Fund - a $40 billion investment fund, a portion of whose dividends are distributed annually to state residents - to divest millions of dollars in holdings tied to the Sudanese government.

In an e-mail later, Gara clarified that he believed opposition from the Palin administration helped kill his bill, but was not solely responsible for its death.

Not only did Palin lie, she was in fact partly or wholly responsible for the failure of the effort she now claims credit for. She's a cheeky monkey donchaknowit youbetcha! McCain and Palin don't care about everyday Americans - they just want to take their tax program for the rich back to Washington and give the wealthy four more years of protection.

It's Time for a Change!

Another lying Republican politician. You know, this ain't news anymore. They feel thay can easily get away with it. Remember when in his debate with Kerry, Chimpy said he didn't believe he ever made a statement showing lack of concern about Osama when he had made that exact statement in March 2002? And Chimpy largely got away with it!

They're so brazen.

Patriot:

Biden lied as well, in fact at least 14 different times but who's counting?

Kev:

Any commentary on the long, huge list of things Biden either lied about, or just plain screwed up on, in the debate? Here's just a partial list and commentary:

Shelby:

wow... INDIRA MARTIN you must be completely brain dead yourself. first of all, I am from Alaska and have met Sarah Palin on multiple occasions, what proof do you have she is a "phony" mom and politician. I personally have seen her and the way she interacts with her children, and she is an incredible mom. Her children all love and respect her (maybe yours don't and you are just pissed off). Second, what makes you think that republicans are brain dead? hmmm lets see who would I rather vote for? a president who stands up for what he believes in, has a ton of experience... or one who while in the senate many times could not decide if he should vote yes or no... yes or no? sooo many options! and one who was a community organizer and only tells us he wants change and hope... the only things he has even told us he wants to change are the taxes... he wants to raise them. but considering that last year him and his wife brought in 4 million why would they care if taxes go up? but you know... you are right. i would much rather have a president who also while in the senate voted "present" because he got confused between yes and no. I can't wait to see what other wise and incredible things he has to say! (so by what I just told you, i think it must be you that is brain dead... not republicans).
