McCain Pals Around with ACORN

[Link] The beleaguered Democratic-leaning community group Acorn sends over this photograph: John McCain, in March of 2006, sitting beside Florida Rep. Kendrick Meek at an event Acorn co-sponsored in Florida.

The immigration event, which other photos show was packed with red-shirted Acorn member, was co-sponsored by the local Catholic Archdiocese, the SEIU, and other groups.

McCain, still spiting much of his party on immigration at the time, was the headliner.

Bertha Lewis, Acorn's chief organizer, said in a statement that came with the photo, "It has deeply saddened us to see Senator McCain abandon his historic support for ACORN and our efforts to support the goals of low-income Americans."

"We are sure that the extremists he is trying to get into a froth will be even more excited to learn that John McCain stood shoulder to shoulder with ACORN, at an ACORN co-sponsored event, to promote immigration reform," she said.

McCain had no trouble fraternizing with ACORN in 2006 when their political interests coincided with his. Now, his campaign is writing e-mails in his name bashing ACORN as a tool of the Obama machine.

Michelle Malkin says:

"I'll rely on people to judge me by the company that I keep," McCain said in February.

That's not working out so well now, is it?

If you want to know why see-sawing John McCain has had to be goaded, prodded, begged, and dragged into spotlighting Barack Obama's radical ACORN roots, here's your answer:

Turns out John McCain had no problem calling ACORN members his friends during his ill-fated illegal alien shamnesty crusade.

Just the usual right wing hypocrisy - nothing new here.... When hugging ACORN is in McCain's self-interest, he hugs ACORN. When slamming ACORN is in McCain's self-interest, he slams ACORN.

Is John McCain erratic? You betcha! McCain is a slippery politician who spins in the political wind faster than a weather vane.

Wow, smashing stuff! If only McCain had been a lawyer and trainer for them, you might have something. Keep trying though. Oh, and I'm happy to be the first commenter only 18 hours after the post.

I suppose sarcasm helps you guys through the day, what with the polls showing McCain and Palin going in the crapper for exactly the kind of bullshit guilt by associations crap you're spewing here, JFK.

Huge mistake, pretending Obama "pals with terrorists" - now every petty allegation -- like the ACORN "scandal" lol -- looks like just another right wing tin-foil conspiracy.

I admit - with a boat anchor like Sarah Palin, and John-John's pathetic manic episodes of "gotta-do-something-quick" erratic ping-ponging of strategies, painting Obama with an ACORN brush must have seemed like a good idea at the time...

but all you've done is trivialized any real issues that might pop up. Everything you guys do now looks like another phony attack.

By the way, JFK, posts like this aren't laughing 'with' you -- we're laughing 'at' you. I know you don't 'get the joke' but the fact that you guys don't get it is what makes it so funny.

You guys are good little GOP foot soldiers, running from one faux 'controversy' to the next, scrambling from hill to the next, while we cruise at 30,000 feet and watch in amusement.

John F Not Kerry:

I certainly didn't think you were laughing with me about anything. Nor do I care whether you laugh at me. I have no illusions about your perspective. If you think I am a "foot soldier" for McCain, however, you are mistaken. He was my last choice of the major GOP contenders, except for Huckabee. If Obama wins I will be bummed, but my life will go on. If I lived and died by who wins elections, I would have been toast long ago.

Believe it or not, I wish you peace. If you knew anything about me outside this website, you would know me as a happy person who has normal ups and downs. I tried to start a blogspot website to comment on things like religion, politics, and golf, but I got disinterested. So, I scan a number of conservative sites to shoot the breeze, make bad jokes, and see what's going on.

Take care, Lee. Whoever wins, if you can be happy inside of who you really are, then you have something good going.

The right wing failed to evolve, JFnK, and that's been their downfall. It's showing up on many levels.

John McCain's current economic plan - this week's plan anyway - it's a direct copy of Hillary Clinton's. What does that tell you? "Running on empty"....

re: Huckabee - I was more aligned with Huckabee than any other Republican candidate.

And imho the best (meaning greatest chance of winning) ticket the GOP could have put up would have been Romney/Huckabee. That would have been a sure-fire win in my view - against Obama or Clinton.

But the right wing splintered. Every faction of the right wanted their own - and how you ended up with McCain is beyond me. The primaries must have been rigged - or else Democrats crossed over and voted for McCain, or something. When McCain came back to win it I was baffled.

I was focused on the Clinton/Obama battles - so I was not paying that much attention to McCain and the others, but I was really surprised that McCain won the nomination. As I said, Romney and Huckabee were a pretty good ticket - unbeatable in my humble opinion.

But the fact that Romney was Mormon meant it wasn't going to be - and maybe that's the take -away from all of this. The evangelicals who won it for Bush in 2000 and 2004 defeated their own party in 2008 by not backing Romney (or anyone other than Thompson or Huckabee), and we ended up with Milktoast McSame and Caribou Barbie instead. No chance against the Obama Charisma machine.
