Breaking News: Joe the Plumber is a Keating Relative

Updated and Bumped: Not only is Joe not a licensed plumber, his statement that his employer is licensed appears to be false as well.

Joe the Plumber said Thursday he doesn't have a license and doesn't need one. Joe Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, the nickname Republican John McCain bestowed on him during Wednesday's presidential debate, said he works for a small plumbing company that does residential work. Because he works for someone else, he doesn't need a license, he said.

But the county Wurzelbacher and his employer live in, Lucas County, requires plumbers to have licenses. Neither Wurzelbacher nor his employer are licensed there, said Cheryl Schimming of Lucas County Building Regulations, which handles plumber licenses in parts of the county outside Toledo.

----original post begins here----

A hat tip to commenter Allen for first putting me onto this, but this is amaaaazing... It turns out the Joe the Unlicensed Plumber is a relative of the infamous Charles Keating:

Crooks and Liars is reporting:

I guess it's no wonder John McCain was so happy to use "Joe the Plumber" as a debate prop last night -- he's a partisan Republican who also happens to be a member of McCain's old friends, the Keating family.

From Martin Eisenstadt:

Turns out that Joe Wurzelbacher from the Toledo event is a close relative of Robert Wurzelbacher of Milford, Ohio. Who's Robert Wurzelbacher? Only Charles Keating's son-in-law and the former senior vice president of American Continental, the parent company of the infamous Lincoln Savings and Loan. The now retired elder Wurzelbacher is also a major contributor to Republican causes giving well over $10,000 in the last few years.

Now I guess we know why Joe is telling the press that Obama is a "socialist" and that the Obama tax plan "infuriated" him. After all, it would hit families like the Keatings and their minions the hardest.

Not to mention that Obama's economic-recovery plan would put the crimps on influence peddlers like McCain's old friends, the Keating Five.

But he sure made for a good one-day story.

Kev:

I'm not entirely sure why any of this is relevent. The fact of the matter is that Joe the Plumber is a symbol for what MANY Americans are going through and feeling in regard to Obama and his plans. Are working Americans' opinions not valid if they happen to be Republicans? Are only the feelings and thoughts and stories of Democrats pertinent to Obama and his supporters? Apparently. Well, let me clue you guys in here-- licensed or not, and family tree aside, Joe voiced REAL AND VALID concerns, despite you valiently trying to distract people away from it. Working class, middle class families are worried about Obama and his socialist agenda. The more you and your fellow Obama fiends try to downplay those concerns, the more and more real they become, because all it does is show that Obama, and those who follow him, truly don't give a flying crap about what "the other side" is going through.

Lee Ward:

Many? How many? Not many!

The right paints with broad brush strikes - McCain said it effects MILLIONS, right wing bloggers talk of "socialism" - and when you scrub off the fluff you find that it's a tiny percentage of small business owners who are actually effected by this to only a small degree.

"Working class, middle class families are worried about Obama and his socialist agenda."

Yeah, their not worried about their shrinking 401Ks or pension plans, or their shrinking home values - they worried about Plumbers who make $250,000 a year.

Break me a give.

Allen:

Lee, they won't give you a break, they are desperate, they know they are losing, but I sure love watching their BS as they go down in flames.

Lee Ward:

"The fact of the matter is that Joe the Plumber is a symbol for what MANY Americans are going through and feeling"

No, he's just a guy. Just another American unregistered voter, unlicensed plumber relative of the Keatings...

I noticed that Martin Eisenstadt, the blogger/pundit/war profiteer, is in the news again as the McCain insider who broke the story connecting "Joe the plumber" to Charles Keating. I recently shot an unauthorized mini documentary on Martin Eisenstadt called "The Last Republican" that I am showing as a webseries on my youtube channel, "youkaysam". http://www.youtube.com/user/youkaysam
At times charming and knowledgeable, Martin is, in fact, a dangerous McCain surrogate who hides behind layers and half truths that I like to believe I succeeded in identifying and exposing.
