Intelligence Confirms - Cheney is Full of Crap on Torture Effectiveness

Republican liars just don't know when to stop. Dick Cheney is no exception... he got away with lying for so long he can't stop himself now.

U.S. counterterrorism officials are reacting angrily to ex-Vice President Dick Cheney's claim that waterboarding 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed 183 times was a "success" that produced actionable intelligence.

"Cheney is full of crap," one intelligence source with decades of experience said Tuesday.

Another retired counterterrorism official who read reports when they arrived in Washington detailing the confessions of Mohammed, known as "KSM," said most of the information he coughed up during the waterboarding sessions involved things he thought his CIA-contract interrogators already knew, or were just his ideas for mayhem.

"Most of the (cables) were reports of actions that KSM was only remotely thinking of undertaking - they didn't even reach the planning stage," the retired counterterrorism official said. "So it's a bit of a stretch for Bush administration officials to say these were attacks they had disrupted."

Republicans lied, and they're still lying now - and they will continue to lie because enough idiots believe them. If they weren't liars they'd have 10% public approval rating instead of 20%.

Update: Secretary of State Clinton pissed on Cheney...

As Clinton made her first appearance before Congress as the nation's top diplomat, California Republican Dana Rohrbacher asked if the administration planned to heed Cheney's call to release documents showing information gained as a result of the Bush administration's aggressive interrogation techniques.

"Well, it won't surprise you that I don't consider him to be a particularly reliable source of information," Clinton said, to laughter from many in the committee room.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzales et.al, lied to the American people for 8 long years, reducing the GOP to a laughing stock.

And now they may well be headed to a trial. Cheney wants his day in court? Let's give it to him...

GianniD:

Is the left EVER correct?

In the most recent instance, Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair acknowledged in a memo to the intelligence community that Bush-era interrogation practices yielded had "high-value information," then omitted that admission from a public version of his assessment.

Seems as if Fauxbama tried to pick and choose what to release.

Lee Ward:

Blair:

"The information gained from these techniques was valuable in some instances, but there is no way of knowing whether the same information could have been obtained through other means," Blair said in a written statement.

"The bottom line is these techniques have hurt our image around the world, the damage they have done to our interests far outweighed whatever benefit they gave us and they are not essential to our national security."

Did more harm than good, but most Republicans are too stupid to recognize that.

Cheney was (and is) full of crap.

Steve:

"But there is no way of knowing whether the same information could have been obtained through other means," Blair said in a written statement." That's convenient. Did they try asking, "Pretty please with sugar on top"?
