Colin Powell's Former Aide Unloads on Cheney (video)

HooYa!

Former Colin Powell aide Lawrence Wilkerson, a Republican, unloaded on Dick Cheney for his weekend attack on Powell, calling out Cheney's five deferments to avoid serving in the Vietnam war.

For all of their bluster and bluffing about being tough on (insert electioneering slogan here) the fact is Republicans are swishy crybabies.

They cowered in fear and lashed out like children after the 9/11 attacks, allowing bullies like Cheney to destroy our nation's credibility with lie after lie after lie, and the fact is that there is not a single Republican of stature who will stand up up to Dick the Prick and tell him to shut the f*ck up. Dick Cheney is trying desperately to avoid prosecution for war crimes relating to torture, and he's doing what he knows best - lying and attempting to bully anyone who dares cross his path.

None of the Republican party bigwigs has, to use the Wilkerson vernacular, the "intestinal fortitude" to take a leadership position on leading the party out of the death spiral triggered by Limbaugh, Cheney et.al..

They're wimps. Torturing, bullying, cowardly wimps.

Allen:

As a young man, Cheney refused to serve his country (taking 5 deferments), and now as an old man he wants to torture in the name of America. This man is no friend of our United States! Just keep paying out rope to Cheney.... it's backfiring! Give him even MORE media exposure... so more is declassified in response.

And in that perversity that relies on proving a negative Cheney insists that the interrogation methods used revealed "vast quantities of invaluable information" and "saved thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of lives." His assertion that little was known about Al Qaeda before detainees' forced admissions only reinforces a sense that the people running our government failed to seek out informed Middle East experts and ignored the warning signs that existed before 9/11. There was plenty of information available had anyone in the administration been paying attention.

Heralder:

You cannot use lack or quality of military service as some sort of requisite to execute a war or govern a nation, unless you want to apply it to the sitting President, who happens to be conducting a war as well (complete with bombing runs and civilian casualties).

Are you saying Obama is completely unqualified to run the country and manage a war?

Rich Fader:

Okay, but where is Cheney actually wrong? (Cheney's Vietnam war service, or rather lack thereof, being entirely irrelevant to the truth or falsity of what he's saying.)

Paul Hooson:

Some in the Republican Party want it to be a mainstream political party capable of winning elections, and others like Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin want to pull the party into fringe issue status and make it unacceptable to most voters and damage it as badly as Barry Goldwater once did.

Lee Ward:

Rich Fader Chooses to jettison some facts: "Cheney's Vietnam war service, or rather lack thereof, being entirely irrelevant to the truth or falsity of what he's saying"

Wilkerson compares Powell's service to his country with Cheney's display of supreme cowardice, and wonders what gives Cheney the right to pass judgment.

Palin and the other GOP idiots aren't smart enough to win elections, Paul. That's the good news...

Heralder:
Wilkerson compares Powell's service to his country with Cheney's display of supreme cowardice, and wonders what gives Cheney the right to pass judgment.

My question stands. George Bush served this country in the military as well, but Barack Obama has not. If you're going to use lack or quality of military service as a barometer for who has a right to speak, you're going to find you've undermined your position.

And with that thinking, I dont believe Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson has the right to pass judgement on Dick Cheney. I don't ever recall having a Vice President by the name of Wilkerson.

Lee Ward:

You are such an idiot on so many levels, Heralder, that it is getting tiresome...

The comparison isn't between someone who served and some who didn't -- the comparison is between someone who served admirably, actually leading our service members into battle, and someone who acted out of supreme cowardice and avoided service altogether.

Are you really so stupid that you can't see the difference, or let me ask again - are you just here to troll the comment threads?

J.R.:

actually leading our service members into battle, and someone who acted out of supreme cowardice and avoided service altogether.

lee, what the f are you talking about. How does that pertain to opinions on the Republican party. Please explain that? This has nothing to do with trolling and everything to do with trying to comprehend what inane point you are making?

Are you stating that those who didn't serve can not criticize those who did serve when it comes to matters of Politics? How so?

Lee Ward:

"lee, what the f are you talking about."

I'm talking about the comparison Wilkerson drew in the video that you obviously didn't watch - and that Heralder was too dim to understand, troll.

When did you guys start taking "stupid" pills?

Allen:

As a draft dodger Cheney, along with queer Rush should not be commenting about General Powell. Those two chicken hawks aren't good enough to wear the uniform of our country, but are good enough to criticize any ex-military member? BS, they are the typical GOP chicken hawks. But don't let facts stand in the way.

J.R.:

Hey asshat(s), as this can apply to both allen and lee. Since is a former military free from condemnation? Really, why are Powell's opinions on politics somehow now so sacred to you that they are beyond reproach.

You guys are funny.

Lee Ward:

Nobody has claimed Powell is above criticism, J.R. - he's a prominent Republican who dared to oppose Dick Cheney, and his former aide has come to Powell's defense, quite eloquently, pointing out that Cheney is a coward who dodged military service.

J.R.:

Nobody has claimed Powell is above criticism, J.R.

Really, than why the post? Why the need to highlight this guy's rant about Cheney's criticism of Powell?

he's a prominent Republican who dared to oppose Dick Cheney

Actually, it was Cheney who opposed Powell's latest diatribe. And please, Powell is no more a prominent Republican than Arlen Specter.

his former aide has come to Powell's defense, quite eloquently, pointing out that Cheney is a coward who dodged military service.

Again, what does that have to do with Cheney's criticism of Powell, nothing. And there was no eloquence whatsoever in that clip. It was a total non-sequitir given to a sympathetic talk show host. It has nothing to do Cheney's nor Powell's view of the Republican party.

Tim:

So a Powell lackey came to his defense. Color me unimpressed. Colin Powell was one of the soft-liners who stopped us short of total victory in the Gulf War. If we had been allowed to finish the war, we wouldn't have needed Round II, the jihadis wouldn't have been able to plan ahead for their insurgency, and things would be a lot better over there. Colin Powell may have been a leader and a warrior at one time in his career, but he was a politician through and through in 1991.

Heralder:

I think the personal attacks arena has been pretty much dominated by you, Lee. (though I'm not saying I haven't responded at all) I'm not sure if it's even possible to troll in your own threads, but it certainly seems like that's what is occuring.

Look, if offering something that is dicordant with your narrative is trolling, and it's getting really tiresome to have to constantly defend what you post, you have the wrong hobby, maybe turn off comments altogether.

That said, I think I'll give you some peace and stick to another site for my debates, as I hoped it was obvious that the point of me posting here was not to troll. That's a waste of time, time I could spend better elsewhere.

Take care now.

Lee Ward:

You're smarter than I thought!
